The Church will present “Knowledge Friday” with Diana Diamond, Ph.D., on Friday, December 5, at 6 p.m.
Diamond, a leading expert on personality disorders, attachment and narcissism, will discuss narcissism as both a clinical and social phenomenon. She will explain the impetus for her latest book, “Treating Pathological Narcissism With Transference-Focused Psychotherapy,” and illustrate points with examples from art, literature and film. A Q&A will follow the discussion.
The talk will explore the challenges of treating individuals with narcissistic disorders who retreat into compensatory grandiosity, compromising their relationships and daily functioning. Diamond will also address how to recognize pathological narcissism, strategies for treatment, and its implications in political, organizational and social contexts.
Diamond is a psychologist, psychoanalyst, professor and author. She is Professor Emerita in the doctoral program in clinical psychology at the City University of New York and a Senior Fellow at the Personality Disorders Institute at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical College. She co-developed Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, an evidence-based psychodynamic treatment taught internationally. Diamond also serves on the faculty of New York University’s postdoctoral program in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis and the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and Society. She maintains a private practice in New York City and Sag Harbor and co-chairs the Lighthouse Project, a year-round mental health discussion series at the Sag Harbor Cinema.
Tickets are $10 (members free with RSVP) at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is located at 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor.
