The Hamptons Festival of Music (or TH·FM for short), was founded in 2022 by conductor Michael Palmer, who also serves as the artistic director. Last September, the organization presented its inaugural season as a trio of concerts as at LTV Studios in Wainscott. Each concert highlighted one of the three major modes of classical music expression — orchestra, chamber music and solo recital.
TH·FM is returning in 2023, this time, not only with three full orchestral concerts on September 3, 8 and 10 at LTV Studios, but also with an expanded lineup of musical events for the entire community. The organization’s new “Salon Series” is a community outreach program offered in conjunction with two other East Hampton nonprofits, LongHouse Reserve and the Hamptons International Film Festival. Through their partnership, TH·FM will present a series of classical music concerts to an expanded audience within the East End community.
The first “Salon Series” event will be held Saturday, April 15, at 5 p.m. at LongHouse Reserve, 133 Hand’s Creek Road, East Hampton. Titled “Spring @ LongHouse,” the event is a cocktail reception and benefit event to celebrate the partnership of LongHouse Reserve TH·FM. It will provide guests with an opportunity to meet Maestro Michael Palmer, learn the details of the upcoming 2023 season and experience a very special concert performance of Beethoven’s “Spring Sonata,” featuring TH·FM’s chamber players Brandt Fredriksen, piano, and Nicolas Danielson, violin, in the private living room of the home of LongHouse founder Jack Lenor Larsen. To reserve a seat, visit LongHouse Reserve at longhouse.org.
Additional “Salon Series” events will follow this summer, including “Music & Film ... in Concert” on Sunday, August 13. Offered in partnership with the Hamptons International Film Festival, the free family-friendly event in Herrick Park in East Hampton Village will feature an outdoor screening of the classic Charlie Chaplin film “A Dog’s Life” while TH·FM Salon Orchestra performs the film score live on stage.
Then on Saturday, August 19, it’s back to LongHouse Reserve for “The Seasons @ LongHouse,” a special immersive experience focused on Piazzola’s “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires,” performed against the backdrop of the natural beauty and art of the LongHouse property. Guests will experience TH·FM’s Salon Orchestra performing Piazzola’s tango-inspired, virtuosic music in the very unique setting of the glassed-in, lower level of Jack Lenor Larsen’s home. This special concert will feature violin soloist, Annie Chalex-Boyle.
