In June, Paul McCartney turned 80, and on August 5, The Moondogs, the East End’s premier Beatles band, will celebrate the legendary musician’s 80th birthday with “Paul McCartney: The Early Years,” at 8 p.m. at The Clubhouse in Wainscott. This will be the band’s final performance of this show in the Long Island area.

As many Long Islanders know, The Moondogs have been faithfully covering the music of The Beatles for decades. The current incarnation of the band had its genesis in 2014, at a celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ 1964 arrival in America. Their special limited-edition Beatles shows have since become an annual Long Island event. In 2017, it was “Sgt. Pepper LIVE” with a full horn section and multimedia show. For 2018, George Harrison’s 75th birthday. In 2019, all of both “Let It Be” and “Abbey Road,” “The White Album” in 2021. And to celebrate his 80th birthday, it’s “Paul McCartney, the Early Years.”

The band will perform faithful versions of McCartney’s songs from 1962-1971. Though the emphasis will be on classic favorites from his Beatles years, some unexpected choices from McCartney’s first two post-Beatles albums will also be presented.

“As always, we work hard to deliver note-for-note, sound-for-sound renditions of these much-loved songs,” said Michael Schiano, the band’s musical director. “We know that The Beatles fans who come to see us are as particular about the music as we are. We don’t do imitations, wear wigs or costumes, but we put our whole hearts and souls into our performances, to do justice to Paul’s incredible music.”

The Moondogs are: Fred Gilde (keys/vocals), Mick Hargreaves (guitar/vocals), Dan Koontz (keys/vocals), Joe Lauro (bass/vocals), Jeff Levitt (guitar), Mark Pohl (drums) and Michael Schiano (guitar/vocals).

The Clubhouse is at 174 Daniels Hole Road, East Hampton. Tickets are available online at clubhousehamptons.com/events.
