On Saturday, October 21, at 8 p.m. Riverhead’s Suffolk Theater will present an evening with the music of Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire from the guys that performed it. The Players feature Bill Champlin, Keith Howland and Jeff Coffey (all formerly of Chicago), with Gorden Campbell (formerly of Earth, Wind & Fire).
Two-time Grammy Award winner Bill Champlin performed in Chicago for 28 years. He formed his first band in 1961 and the Sons of Champlin in 1965. He has worked with artists including Elton John, Neil Diamond and Kenny Rodgers. In 1979 he won his first Grammy award for cowriting “After the Love Has Gone,” which was later recorded by Earth, Wind & Fire. In 1981 he won another Grammy for co-writing “Turn Your Love Around” for George Benson, and released his second solo album that year, “Runaway.” In 1982 he joined Chicago to record Chicago 16.
Keith Howland was the lead guitarist for the veteran pop-rock band Chicago from 1995 to 2021. Starting out his career with artists such as Rick Springfield, Patty Smyth and jazz saxophonist Warren Hill, Howland caught on in early 1995 with the “legendary rock band with horns” Chicago for almost 27 years doing over 100 shows a year with the band.
Former lead vocalist of Chicago and former bassist for Hall of Famer Don Felder of The Eagles, Jeff Coffey performed with the best. He has performed alongside Hootie and the Blowfish, Edwin McCain, Vertical Horizon, Sixpence None the Richer, Earth Wind and Fire, The Doobie Brothers and others.
Gorden Campbell has been blessed to have worked with some of the entertainment industry’s top artists and entertainers including Earth, Wind & Fire, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, Mary J. Blige and Jessica Simpson to name a few. He is also the musical director for the artist Ne-Yo.
Tickets for the show are $49 to $85 at thesuffolk.org. Suffolk Theater is at 118 East Main Street, Riverhead.
