Bay Street Theater will screen “The Premiere” on Sunday, December 15, at 3 pm. The feature film, a mockumentary about a documentary about trying to make a musical about a movie, returns to Bay Street Theater where most of it was shot. The film, which marks the directorial debut of Sam Pezzullo and Christopher Bouckoms, had its world premiere in October at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a “talk back” and Q&A with the filmmakers moderated by Tracy Mitchell, Bay Street Theater’s executive director.

“The Premiere” is a fresh twist on the mockumentary format. It tells the story of Sam (Pezzullo himself in his on-screen debut), a painfully narcissistic theater producer attempting to realize a delusional creative vision: a musical version of his favorite movie, “Scream,” to be staged at Bay Street Theater, with an accompanying documentary chronicling what he believes will be an iconic journey. Along the way, he clashes with quirky characters played by real-life locals with awkward and outrageous results.

Drawing inspiration from cringe comedy classics and crafted mainly through improvisation, “The Premiere” is a keen satire about the Hamptons with a biting love letter to the community at its core. The film stars Sam Pezzullo, Alan Ceppos, Kristen Curcie, Mohna Hoppe, Ruby Jackson, Andrea Harum-Schiavoni, Catherine Schiavoini Bromberg, Scott Baker, Lorenzo Rodriquez, Christina Brown and many others.

Sam Pezzullo is a Webby, Clio and Shorty award-winning producer with a background in viral marketing, branded content, film and event production. He has created content for clients like Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount, Oakley, Verizon, Amazon and YouTube. He also oversaw programming and production of Tribeca X, a section of the Tribeca Film Festival that recognizes branded storytelling. He lives in Sag Harbor.

Christopher Bouckom spent a decade working in film and television in New York and Los Angeles where he helped to produce a slew of network television shows, films and international commercial campaigns.

Tickets for the screening are $15 at baystreet.org or 631-725-9500. Bay Street Theater is on Long Wharf in Sag Harbor.
