Showtime’s highest-rated comedy special of 2019, “Funny Women of a Certain Age,” returns to The Suffolk on Sunday, October 5, at 2 p.m.

What began as a fun way for Carole Montgomery to work with her friends has become a comedy brand of its own. A veteran of more than 40 years in stand-up, Montgomery created “Funny Women of a Certain Age” to give older women comics a chance to be seen and heard. The idea quickly turned into a Showtime special, making television history as the first stand-up special to feature six women over the age of 50. It also became the network’s highest-rated stand-up premiere of 2019.

The show features bold, brilliant and unapologetically funny women — all of a certain age — who helped pave the way for today’s female comedians.

This performance will feature Montgomery, Lynne Koplitz and Missy Hall.

Montgomery has more than two dozen television credits and has headlined comedy clubs and colleges across the country. She starred in two different Las Vegas production shows and was seen by an estimated five million people during her 10 years performing on the Las Vegas Strip. In 2017, she created “Funny Women of a Certain Age” as a live show, which was later filmed for Showtime. She followed that success with additional specials in 2020 and 2021. Montgomery has also directed and produced comedy specials, including Jim Florentine’s “I’m Your Savior” on Amazon Prime and Kaytlin Bailey’s solo show “Whore’s Eye View.” She has toured with Armed Forces Entertainment 11 times, performing for troops in Iraq, Kosovo, South Korea, Haiti and other locations. She has also performed at the Montreal Just for Laughs, Boston and New York Comedy Festivals.

Koplitz was born in New York and raised in Florida. She became the first woman since Roseanne Barr to sign a development deal with producer Tom Werner at Warner Bros. Koplitz has appeared regularly on television in shows such as “Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best,” “Z Rock” on IFC, “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson,” “Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn” and “Comedy Knockout.” She also had her own half-hour special on “Comedy Central Presents.” She is the co-host of “StarTalk” with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and appeared in “History of the Joke” on the History Channel, hosted by Lewis Black. Koplitz was also featured in Jenny McCarthy’s Epix comedy special “Dirty, Sexy, Funny,” and her 2016 Netflix special “Hormonal Beast” received critical acclaim.

Hall is a comedian, speaker, actress and breast cancer survivor who uses humor as a way to connect and cope. Her comedy is known for being relatable, witty and uplifting. Her comedy album “Miss Representation” made the Grammy entry list for Best Comedy Album, while her follow-up “Fifty Shades of Fifty” has been streamed more than 250,000 times. Her most recent recording, “Scoot Up,” is currently playing on SiriusXM Radio. Hall performs with the national touring shows “Funny Women of a Certain Age” and “Ladies of Laughter.” She was selected as “Best of the Fest” at the 2019 Burbank Comedy Festival and was a finalist in the 2018 Big Sky Comedy Festival. In addition to her comedy, she has appeared in films, musicals and works as a motivational speaker.

Tickets for “Funny Women of a Certain Age” are $39 to $79 at thesuffolk.org. The Suffolk is located at 118 East Main Street, Riverhead.
