The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art/The Art Barge hosts its “Back at Ashawagh” exhibition, which will be held at Ashawagh Hall in Springs, opens Friday, September 13, with a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and runs through Wednesday, September 17.

This exhibition marks a nostalgic return to the roots of The Art Barge. In 1955, Victor D’Amico, the founding director of the education department at the Museum of Modern Art, began hosting summer classes and showcasing student artwork at Ashawagh Hall. Inspired by the local landscape, including the farms of Springs, the town pond and the fishing docks in Montauk, D’Amico utilized Ashawagh Hall as a venue for rainy days and exhibitions until he established The Art Barge in 1960. Since then, Ashawagh Hall has remained a cherished exhibition space.

“Back at Ashawagh” will feature a diverse collection of artwork by Friends of The Art Barge, as well as pieces by Barge trustees, instructors and staff. Additionally, the exhibition will honor Joyce Parcher with a special segment celebrating her remarkable 40-year contribution to painting at The Art Barge.

Exhibition hours are Friday, September 13, 2 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, September 15 to Tuesday, September 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ashawagh Hall is at 780 Springs Fireplace Road in East Hampton.
