Alone Gallery's “Spotlight 3” exhibition, on view from July 14 to 26, features paintings by Tomás Sánchez.

Arguably the most famous living Cuban artist, Tomás Sánchez's idyllic landscape paintings possess a calmness that radiates out of the canvas and through their viewers. The blue skies and clear waters seem frozen in time, just delicately enough to start moving again the moment we avert our eyes.

Sánchez often sings the praises of meditation, to which his work is inextricably linked; his paintings are ideal for solitary viewing. Now for eight days, they’ll transform the Alone Gallery space into a remote oasis that brings its visitors into Sánchez’s very own meditative state of mind.

Art dealers Max Levai and Tripoli Patterson, art collector Bob Rubin, and design and development agency Bean.la launched Alone Gallery as the first exhibition space designed to be experienced in total isolation, one person at a time, and with no gallery staff present. Hosted in Tripoli Gallery’s new location, Alone Gallery is located at 26 Ardsley Road in Wainscott, and is open for viewings seven days a week throughout the summer.

To visit, guests must register for a 30-minute time slot at alonegallery.com. The gallery will then send a door access code or, for a completely touch free visit, visitors can contact the gallery to unlock the door remotely. Groups of up to four people will be permitted if they are quarantining together. Complimentary masks, hand sanitizer and shoe covers will be provided outside the space, and the gallery will be sanitized daily.

Tomás Sánchez is the third of five short exhibitions being offered this summer in a 945-square foot are of Tripoli Gallery’s 2,400-square foot warehouse, spotlighting solo work and dynamic pairings of well-known artists spanning generations, styles, and mediums. For those who cannot see the shows in-person, all exhibitions will be available to view digitally with a portal to easily inquire about the works.

Levai, Patterson, and Rubin share a common goal of presenting art in inventive spaces, recently working together on the September Art Show at The Bridge, the open-air art show presented in shipping containers on the dunes of Rubin’s famed Bridgehampton golf course. Bean.la will manage cataloging the exhibitions online and the remote reservation system for entry.
