Works by artists Kathy Milliken, Aubrey Grainger, Jean Mahoney, Pat Garrity, Eileen Dawn Skretch, Diane White and many others will be on view in Thirty Squared Art Show “Summer Finale 2025,” running at the Water Mill Museum Thursday, September 4, to Sunday, September 14. A public reception to meet the artists will be held Saturday, September 6, from 4 to 7 p.m.
More than 10 years ago, artist Aubrey Grainger issued a challenge to her fellow painters: Create 30 paintings in 30 days. The effort was inspired by artist Chuck Close, who famously said, “Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just get to work.”
About two dozen artists accepted the challenge. Grainger created a Facebook group where participants could share their daily work. After 30 days, each artist selected one painting for a group exhibition at the Water Mill Museum. The show was a success, celebrated for its fresh and vibrant works.
While the original output requirement has loosened over the years, the spirit of the challenge remains — create work every day for 30 days.
This year, works by 25 artists will be on display and for sale at the historic Water Mill Museum. Hours are Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The Water Mill Museum is located at 41 Old Mill Road in Water Mill.
