How do we learn to embrace the uncertainties of life? Psychotherapist, author and Sag Harbor resident Dr. Susan Powers, Ph.D. has a simple answer — “Throw love at it.” That simple idea, she notes, is full of challenges and can transform how people think about themselves and their lives.
In her book “Walking on Air,” Powers shares how she created a fulling and joyful life after traumatic loss and how she has gone beyond the acceptance of loss and leaned to “throw love at” her biggest challenges in life, like addiction (hers and others), grieving, divorce, illness (including her father’s Alzheimer’s disease) and aging. The book is about consciousness and how to expand awareness in practical ways, creating more satisfaction and fulfillment in life and her own transformation — going from two traumatic losses in 2001 to a happy and satisfying life today at age 80.
On Thursday, September 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., Powers will sign copies of her book “Walking on Air” at Keyes Gallery in Sag Harbor. She explains that the book explores living by discovery and spontaneity and having the courage to trust in the journey, which means leading with the heart and not the head. The book presents practical tools for living, including guidance for setting a tone each morning for the day ahead. Powers guides readers to a personally eclectic and practical spirituality, which is individual and unique, simple and relatable.
Powers lives in Sag Harbor with her partner, Bill Cassata, and has a private practice, working (mostly) remotely. Keyes Gallery is at 45 Main Street at the American Hotel, Sag Harbor. For more information, visit juliekeyesart.com.
