On June 17, The White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton will open “Change of Focus,” an exhibition with work by Nelson De La Nuez, Lynn Savarese, Karl Soderlund, Martha McCaleer and Kevin Bishop.

“‘Change of Focus’ could not be more in demand in these challenging times,” noted gallery co-owners and directors Andrea McCafferty and Kat O’Neill in a release. “For this first live exhibit since the virus hit, we'd like to make room for the harmless side of life, for the beauty, the creativity, the art.

“The revered European artist Gerhard Richter said, ‘Art is the highest form of hope.’ What did he mean by that? Being 88 now, he has witnessed much ugliness in the world, perhaps through it all art was his great escape. Perhaps it still is. In curating this exhibit we wanted to bring in vibrant, life affirming colors, engaging memories, the sweeter side of history and soft lines to quiet the mind.

“Art may or may not be the highest form of hope but it's a great place to start.”

“Change of Focus runs through July 12 at The White Room Gallery, 2415 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton. For details, visit thewhiteroom.gallery.com.
