This first outdoor concert of the Parrish Art Museum’s Live Jazz on the Terrace series will be presented in collaboration with Hamptons Jazz Fest and the SmallsLive Foundation.

Jazz veteran Joe Farnsworth will perform live at the Parrish on Friday, July 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., presenting the program “Time To Swing” with up-and-coming sax player Sarah Hanahan.

One of the most highly regarded jazz drummers today, Joe Farnsworth is known for his blazing speed, precision, and musical and melodic style. Throughout his career, he has performed in jazz festivals and world tours with Pharoah Sanders, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, George Coleman, and Johnny Griffin, among others. Since relocating to New York, Farnsworth has led weekend jazz combos at Smoke Jazz and Supper Club.

Originally from a musical family in South Hadley, Massachusetts, Farnsworth studied with Alan Dawson and Arthur Taylor, and graduated in 1994 from William Patterson College in New Jersey where he began playing with saxophonist Eric Alexander and guitarist Peter Bernstein.

Sarah Hanahan, whose main horn is the Yanagisawa A-991 alto saxophone, has participated in prestigious programs such as the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center, Jazz Aspen Snowmass with Christian McBride, and Ravinia Steans Jazz Institute. In 2015, Hanahan was awarded a full scholarship to study jazz performance at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz within the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. Currently pursuing a master’s in jazz performance at The Juilliard School, she is a Boston Sax Shop Brand Ambassador and plays BSS reeds.

Hamptons Jazz Fest, produced by The Jam Session, Inc, is a series of performances that bring world-class musicians in to a diverse cross-section of populations in the East End held in iconic venues throughout July, August and September. Collaborating with regional nonprofit cultural organizations, Hamptons Jazz Fest presents dozens of concerts at an affordable rate and engages the diverse groups of the East End in their performance and educational events.

Tickets for the concert are $25 ($15 museum members, seniors and students, $5 children). The concert will be held on the museum’s covered terrace and event lawn. No chairs provided, guests encouraged to bring outdoor chairs. Outside food and coolers are not permitted. Snacks, beverages, picnic baskets and other offerings are available to purchase from the Museum Cafe.

Parrish Art Museum is at 279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill. Visit parrishart.org for details.
