Canio’s Books will host a marathon reading of John Steinbeck’s classic book “Travels With Charley” in early June. Starting in Sag Harbor Cove during Hurricane Donna in 1960, the book follows Steinbeck as he travels the country “in search of America.” Join the community-wide reading of “Travels With Charley,” which not only showcases Sag Harbor, but proves Steinbeck’s acumen for finding the pulse of our country at a time of social upheaval. The marathon begins and ends at Canio’s, with stops at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum and John Jermain Memorial Library along the way.

The marathon kicks off on Thursday, May 30, at 6 p.m. with a screening of the film “Travels With Charley” with narrator Henry Fonda. Visit caniosbooks.com to sign up.

The marathon reading schedule is:

Friday, June 7 - 5 to 7:30 p.m. Canio’s Books, 290 Main Street, Sag Harbor.

Saturday, June 8 - 10 a.m. to noon John Jermain Memorial Library Rotunda, 201 Main Street, Sag Harbor; 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, 200 Main Street, Sag Harbor; 2:30 to 5 p.m. followed by an after party with silent auction, music by Job Potter and Steve Skoldberg, food and fun at Canio’s Books, 290 Main Street, Sag Harbor.
