The Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons will present “Understories,” an exhibition exploring the hidden beauty of the natural world, on view from September 25 to November 9. An opening reception will be held Thursday, September 25, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Featuring work by Robin du Plessis, Laurie Lambrecht, Kiki Smith, Anne Seelbach, Tiffany Shlain and Marianne Weil, “Understories” reveals what stirs in the soil, shimmers in the sea and unfolds quietly beneath our everyday gaze. Through sculpture, photography and painting, the artists illuminate the visible and invisible forces that shape our connection to the living world.

Weil’s sculptural fusion of bronze and glass and Shlain’s delicate mixed media forms speak to nature’s dualities — fluid and solid, fragile and enduring. Du Plessis layers natural artifacts from her daily walks into photographic meditations on evolution and change. Lambrecht blends landscape photography and painting into abstractions of perception. Smith, recognized internationally for her explorations of the body, animals and nature, and Seelbach, whose colorful abstractions raise environmental concerns, round out the show’s multifaceted dialogue with the natural world.

The exhibition continues the Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons’ mission to present work by women artists and foster conversations between art, environment and lived experience.

“Understories” is free and open to the public during gallery hours, Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons is at 2418 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton. For more information, visit wachamptonsny.org.
