Few people in history have had a positive impact on the ideals and momentum of people far and wide like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His charisma and conviction live on through his legacy, and he continues to inspire future generations.
In 2021, East End Arts in Riverhead launched its first MLK Portrait Project with local high schools, and the project has grown each year since. Students in each school create a large mosaic of the inspirational icon or other civil rights leaders comprising16 individual canvases. The 4’ x 4’ portraits are on display in each school until they come together for a gallery show at the East End Food Market, 139 Main Road, Riverhead, opening February 18. This project not only celebrates MLK’s influence through art but also brings together young artists for a collective creative good ... as Dr. King would want it to be.
