As part of its Summer Film Series, the Southampton Arts Center will host a special screening of the documentary “The Last Twins” on Thursday, August 14, at 5 p.m.
Narrated by Liev Schreiber, the film tells the previously untold story of Erno “Zvi” Spiegel, a Holocaust survivor who risked his life to shield young twins from the horrors of Auschwitz. Under the shadow of Dr. Josef Mengele’s infamous experiments, Spiegel was placed in charge of a group of boys — many of them twins marked for inhumane testing. Rather than comply, he used his position to protect the children, offering comfort, care and resistance in the face of unimaginable cruelty.
“The Last Twins” uses first-hand testimony and rare archival footage to illuminate Spiegel’s quiet heroism and the lives he helped save. The film is both a historical record and a powerful tribute to one man’s courage amid one of history’s darkest chapters.
Following the screening, a panel discussion will be moderated by author and journalist Marie Brenner and will feature Dr. Judith Richter along with filmmakers Perri Peltz and Matthew O’Neil.
The screening will take place at the Southampton Arts Center, located at 25 Jobs Lane in Southampton. Tickets are free for members and $10 for nonmembers at southamptoncenter.org or 631-283-0967.
