Shane Weeks is member of the Shinnecock Nation. He is also an artist, traditional dancer, traditional drummer, hunter and fisherman, cultural consultant and educator. On Thursday, August 8, at 7:30 p.m. he will speak about his work and art at The Watermill Center in “Viewpoints with Shane Weeks.”

“Viewpoints” is a year-round conversation series at The Watermill Center where artists and art enthusiasts are given the opportunity to discuss creative themes vital to the contemporary moment.

Mr. Weeks is a member of the Southampton Town Arts and Culture Committee, Shinnecock Nation/Southampton Town Cultural Stewardship Committee, The Watermill Center Community Fellows, Shinnecock Nation Natural Resource Committee, a board member of Slow Foods East End and several committees within the Shinnecock Nation including the Graves Protection Warriors Society.

He works for Wampum Magic on the Poospatuck reservation in Mastic throughout the year making wampum beads out of quahog clam shells. He gives presentations and host events focused on Shinnecock life, history, and culture throughout the U.S. and elsewhere. He ran a Pow Wow stand for several years, traveling throughout the eastern seaboard selling traditional art and crafts made by local artists and artists abroad. One of his biggest goals is to bridge the awareness gap between the Shinnecock and global/local communities.

Tickets to Mr. Weeks’ presentation are $10 at watermillcenter.org. The Watermill Center is at 39 Watermill Towd Road, Water Mill.
