Violinist Andrew Koontz up next in Bridgehampton parlor music series

author on Feb 2, 2010

The Bridgehampton Historical Society’s “Parlor Music Series” will continue this Saturday, February 6, with a performance by violinist Andrew Koontz at 2 p.m. at the society’s headquarters at Corwith Homestead on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton.

Mr. Koontz hails from Princeton, New Jersey, near where he and his brother, Sag Harbor musician Dr. Daniel Koontz, grew up. At the show, he will share his rich knowledge of violin technique and “Dr. Dan” has promised to perform “a couple tunes on the gitbox” with his big brother Andy.

“It’s a long haul to drive to each other’s states to perform together, but the audiences at Bridgehampton Historical are so enthusiastic we can’t wait to get back to them this weekend,” Andrew Koontz said recently.

The “Parlor Music Series” began last Saturday with a sold-out performance by local singer/songwriter Caroline Doctorow. It will continue with two Long Island singer-songwriters, Terry Winchell on February 27 and James O’Malley on March 27. And the “Singing Plumber,” Sag Harbor’s Terry Sullivan, will perform his annual concert on Saturday, March 13. He has promised something new, in addition to a selection of traditional Irish songs and tales.

All concerts begin at 2 p.m. and reservations are required to attend. Admission is $5 per person.

To make a reservation to attend a concert, please call Mary Gardner at the Bridgehampton Historical Society at 537-1088.
