Quilting can be traced back as far as ancient Egypt, first used as fashion, then function — as bed covers and even underneath armor during the 12th century — and today primarily as décor, with a dash of nostalgia thrown in.

The 33rd annual Quilt Show and Sale, themed “Stitches of Time,” will be held from Thursday, August 22, through Sunday, September 8, at the Water Mill Museum, located at 41 Old Mill Road in Water Mill, open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Wednesdays.

“The Water Mill Museum Quilt Show and Sale will feature hundreds of colorful quilts with different patterns and themes in all sizes on display and for purchase,” a press release said. “We will have quilts for infants, all bed sizes, wall beautiful hangings for every season and décor, and more.”

Admission is $5 and free for children, which includes a quilt raffle ticket. For more information, call 631-726-4625 or visit watermillmuseum.org.
