Love is in the air at Suffolk Theater this Valentine’s Day weekend with a special screening of the classic film “Casablanca” on Friday, February 16, at 8 p.m.

This classic 1942 film, directed by Michael Curtiz, has become an undisputed masterpiece. Featuring the iconic romance between Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman against the backdrop of W.W.II, the film explores questions about love, sacrifice and redemption. Set in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, which serves as a melting pot for refugees fleeing the Nazis, the story revolves around Rick Blaine, a cynical nightclub owner, who encounters his former lover, Ilsa Lund, and her husband, resistance leader Victor Laszlo. As tensions rise, Rick is faced with difficult decisions impacted by political intrigue and moral dilemmas. The film’s iconic scenes, memorable dialogue, and timeless themes of love and sacrifice have cemented its status as one of cinema’s greatest masterpieces.

This special event is perfect for couples looking for something new and different to do for Valentine’s Day. Tickets are $25 at thesuffolk.org, and include complimentary prosecco and chocolate-covered strawberries as well as other food and drinks available to order throughout the movie. This screening will also include an exclusive seating arrangement featuring only two seats per table, so couples can enjoy the table to themselves.

Suffolk Theater is at 118 East Main Street, Riverhead.
