Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center’s Arts Academy is gearing up for a full slate of classes beginning in October. Offerings include adult classes as well as WHBPAC’s After School Music Theatre program, the lynch pin of the academy.
“We had a devastating spring 2020, so we’re excited to turn things around this fall,” says Arts Academy Director Kristen Poulakis. “Our students can’t wait to get back on stage where they belong.”
The lineup includes:
Tuesdays beginning October 6
7 to 9 p.m.
Enhance your songwriting craft with weekly classes facilitated by esteemed East End singer/songwriter Fred Raimondo. A 30-year veteran of the Long Island music scene, Raimondo will teach the art of songcraft as well as the business of songwriting. The program will culminate in a livestreamed performance from WHBPAC mainstage on November 14.
Thursdays beginning October 8
2:30 to 4 p.m.
Ready to take your vocal prowess to the next level? Sing your heart out with Arts Academy director Kristen Poulakis as she teaches proper vocal technique and form. Then take your talents to WHBPAC mainstage in a performance on November 14.
Fridays beginning October 9
5 to 7 p.m.
Learn the basics of on-camera acting skills from renowned actress Meghan Rafferty. A trained thespian and casting director, she will teach from classic comedy scripts as participants learn scene transitions, coordination, nonverbal techniques and more.

Fridays beginning October 9
4 to 5 p.m.
The hit movie “Frozen” comes to life for WHBPAC Little Players. Sing, dance and act to your favorite “Frozen” songs. Directed by Arts Academy manager Justin Harris, the Little Players will showcase the icy world of Arendelle on stage.

It’s a big, bright, beautiful world — and “Shrek” and his merry band of misfits will learn true acceptance in these weekly musical theater classes, culminating in a full-scale production. Directed by Arts Academy ,manager Justin Harris.
Grades 9-12
Mondays and Thursdays beginning October 5
Directed by Arts Academy director Kristen Poulakis, this is an irreverent and hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, and social irresponsibility. In a refreshingly modern and touchingly honest portrayal, “Urinetown” is one man’s brave attempt to rescue his community from the clutches of an evil bathroom dictatorship.

Beginning October 6
Jam out to your favorite rock music in an ensemble setting. Featuring the music of AC/DC, Blink-182, Green Day, The Cure and more, teaching artist Jake Lorefice will teach the basics of rock and roll classics.
Ages infant-3
Wednesdays, beginning October 7
10 to 10:45 a.m.
A delightfully whimsical music class for baby or toddler, taught by teaching Artist Anne O’Rourke. Baby and caregiver will learn the musical foundations necessary for growth, development, and a lifetime of musical appreciation .
Ages 12-18
Tuesdays, beginning October 6
4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Learn the art of songwriting and music production with teaching artist Delaney Hafener. This behind-the-scenes, hands-on class will teach you the essentials of producing, mixing, and more.

Private singing, dancing, and acting classes from an array of master teaching artists.
Registration is now open for all classes. The theater anticipates a higher volume of students than in previous years, and is prepared to fill the gap for homeschooled and virtual learning students.
“Arts education in schools looks very different this year, so we want to assist in bridging the gap within our local communities,” says Poulakis.
WHBPAC is dedicated to offering camps and experiences to all youth regardless of financial barriers. Scholarships are granted on a sliding scale from 25 to 100 percent.
