When the 116th Congress convened in Washington D.C. in January of this year, it did so with a record 102 women taking their seats in the House of Representatives. That’s almost a quarter of the voting membership in the House and the highest representation of women in that body in U.S. history.

On Saturday, April 27 at 6 p.m., the Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center’s “Present Tense” series concludes at Pierson High School auditorium with a special sneak preview screening of “Knock Down the House.”

One of the most hotly anticipated non-fiction films of 2019 and winner of the Audience Award for best U.S. Documentary at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Knock Down the House” follows the story of four working-class women who were part of the wave of female candidates running groundbreaking campaigns for Congress in 2018. One of them, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a bartender from the Bronx, has become one of the most outspoken and active members of the new Congress, as well as a media superstar.

The screening is free. To reserve a seat or for more information, visit sagharborcinema.org. Pierson High School is at 200 Jermain Avenue in Sag Harbor.
