Brigid Marlin is a distinguished English painter whose art is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London. She also founded the Society of Art of Imagination.
Now, she and other members of the society will have a public show at Ashawagh Hall in Springs. The show opens with a party from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, and is on view Sunday, August 18, to Wednesday, August 21.
Ms. Marlin paints with the Mische technique, an Italian Renaissance method using egg tempera on a succession of glazes. She also paints traditional watercolors of local flowers and landscapes. A number of her watercolors and etchings will be on view in the show.
She is one of only two artists to have painted portraits in person of the Dalai Lama, and painted the only extant portrait-from-life of P. L. Travers, author of “Mary Poppins.” As a result, she has interesting stories to tell about both sittings.
The other six artists taking part in the show, all members of the Society of Art of Imagination, are: Miguel Tio, France Garrido, Don Farrell (from Seattle, Washington), Olga Spiegel, Jean Provonost (from Montreal, Canada), and Liba Waring Stambollion (of Paris, France).
Ashawagh Hall is at 780 Springs-Fireplace Road, East Hampton. For more information about the art and artists, visit brigmarlin.com or artofimagination.com.
