Two-time National Book Award finalist Patricia McCormick, New York Times bestselling picture book author Emma Walton Hamilton and acclaimed middle grade author Maryrose Wood will be leading writing workshops in their respective genres at the Southampton Children’s Literature Conference, July 19 through July 23 at Stony Brook Southampton. Spaces have recently become available in each of the three workshops, and applications are still being accepted. Space is limited to 12 students per workshop.

Part of the internationally renowned Southampton Arts Writer’s Conferences, sponsored by Stony Brook Southampton’s acclaimed MFA in Creative Writing and Literature Program, the Children’s Literature Conference offers a unique forum for established and emerging writers, artists, and lovers of children’s literature to study and discuss the craft of writing for young readers. The workshops may be taken for graduate or CTLE credit, or on a non-credit basis.

The Children’s Lit Conference runs concurrently with Southampton Arts workshops in playwriting, screenwriting, poetry, memoir, creative non-fiction, and more – so opportunities for learning and cross-pollination abound. Mornings are spent in electives, afternoons are devoted to the writing workshops and evenings provide opportunities for readings and other special events across multiple genres.
