Move a muscle, change a thought. On Wednesday, October 18, at 10 a.m., master teacher Lois Nesbitt kicks off The Church’s newest monthly program, Wellness Wednesdays, with “Yoga: Your Super Power!” Nesbitt guides participants through some simple experiments in writing, movement, breathing and meditation. More than stress relief and stretching, yoga offers techniques that can jump start creativity — and enable individuals to live each day more fully and joyfully. Recover natural curiosity and childlike enthusiasm by following this time-tested path.

This is a lecture/discussion about yoga’s place in your life, not a yoga class. Please come dressed in street clothes and bring a pen and notepad for some brief inspiration. No prior experience of yoga is required!

Led by an expert from the healing or wellness space, Wellness Wednesdays harnesses the wealth of experience and expertise of the local area, which is rich in wellness leaders, and offers it back to the community. This new series celebrates and explores one’s creative self, centering on personal wellness in mind, body, and spirit. From yoga to gong immersions to lectures and conversations and beyond, Wellness Wednesdays at The Church occur the third Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. with a different iteration each time.

Aligned with existing programs Insight Sundays and Knowledge Fridays, which provide insight into the creative processes of artists and the lives of community leaders, respectively, Wellness Wednesdays encourages attendees to position themselves as dynamic conduits of energy and creativity.

Lois Nesbitt has brought the joy of living to yoga students in New York City and the Hamptons for more than 30 years. Known for her playful and informative style, she attracts students of all levels and abilities. A “teacher’s teacher,” Nesbitt has traveled the globe, training thousands of aspiring yoga teachers. Before devoting herself to yoga, she wrote and edited numerous books, essays and reviews on literature, art and architecture. An internationally exhibited visual artist, she creates artworks and site-specific projects for museums, galleries, environmental groups, universities, and individuals, including The Nature Conservancy, Harvard University and many others. Nesbitt holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Princeton. She credits her gift for lively and inspiring teaching to the fine professors who opened her eyes to the wide world.

The session is $10 (free for members) with reservation required at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is at 48 Madison Street in Sag Harbor.
