East End foodies will be blessed with another culinary event, also on Saturday, July 28—“HEAT,” which is in its fourth year. The proceeds will benefit the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital, the Ellen Hermanson Foundation and Ellen’s Well, according to event coordinator Linda Shapiro.
“This is the first year we’ve turned it into a multi-chef event,” she said during a telephone interview last week. “It’s something different. People love food, so to be able to get some very big names involved, it just worked.”
Geoffrey Zakarian, Iron Chef and owner of the Lamb’s Club in Manhattan, is headlining the event, along with Manhattan-based restaurateurs David Burke of Townhouse, John Villa of Tao and John DeLoach of Lavo. They will host their own tables and serve their creations at the waterfront home of Howard and Gayle Sobel on Mecox Bay in Water Mill.
“[I’m] doing a great short rib recipe and a cool watermelon gazpacho,” Mr. Zakarian wrote in an email last week. “I like anything that is prepared with passion and simplicity, which rarely happens. Cooking always changes, memories are made every day in a different way. You have to listen to yourself and your new memories and react to them. It’s very illuminating.”
The fourth annual “HEAT” benefit dinner will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the waterfront home of Howard and Gayle Sobel on Mecox Bay in Water Mill. Tickets start at $300. For more information, visit ellensrun.org.
