At the last East Hampton Town Planning Board meeting, a discussion was had over affordable housing and the site at 350 Pantigo Road. Kirby Marcantonio pitched an idea about the renters having “ownership.” Again, as he has stated previously, this is a novel approach, and he is putting ideas out for consumption. This has the potential to get murky, though there are multiple provisions on affordable housing. For one example, “limited equity” is available to be used nationwide. Why don’t we have “inter”-village ferries, similar to the Amalfi Coast, that run along our bays and can port at each village? Imagine the reduction of summer traffic if you could ride in a great ferry from Southampton or Sag Harbor all the way to Montauk, making stops in each village? An opportunity to explore the Cornell Gardens maintained for the Long Island Horticultural Research and Extension Center will be offered on Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at an open house. There are 20 varied demonstration gardens to view. Admission is free. Cornell’s LIHREC Center is located at 3059 Sound Avenue in Riverhead. The rain-or-shine, free event features workshops, demonstrations, wagon rides, and tours of the gardens led by experienced and master gardeners. There is also a plant sale.
