The Montauk Library invites all its patrons to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, a community science project hosted by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Interested birdwatchers will meet at the library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, and watch the library’s feeders, then proceed around the library grounds. The family-friendly program is open to beginner birders.
Participants will learn to identify birds common to Montauk and help count the various species that visit the library’s feeders and sanctuary garden. Folks are welcome to birdwatch from indoors or from the library decks. After the count, a group checklist will be submitted to eBird. Bringing binoculars is encouraged, although the library has a limited number that may be borrowed. Third House Nature Center is co-sponsoring this event.
