The sprawling examination of the proposed redevelopment of the former sand mine in Wainscott has been submitted to East Hampton Town by the developers and will return to the East Hampton Town Planning Board’s agenda in September.
The 900-page generic environmental impact statement, detailing the plans by owner John Tintle to redevelop the former mine into a sprawling commercial-industrial park, is posted on the East Hampton Town website, www.ehamptonny.gov.
The proposal calls for the 70-acre property to be redeveloped into 50 light industrial lots, which could house dozens of service and manufacturing businesses.
A recently completed town study of the hamlet recommended that a significant portion of the property be used for precisely such a use, as well as allowing service businesses in the current central business district to migrate out of the main “downtown.” But the study also recommended a housing component and that a large portion of the property remain undeveloped as public greenspace.
