Earned Our Support

Perry Gershon’s letter last week [“Tell The Truth,” Letters, March 5] attempts to defend Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act, an act which is not affordable and does not provide anything close to decent medical care. The letter fails to mention what happened to the $2,500 in savings the victims of this nightmare were promised, and also ignores the failed Obama promise that, yes, you can keep your doctor. No mention, either, of the utter chaos of its implementation and ongoing management fiascoes.

Fortunately, the most obnoxious part of the bill, the individual mandate (tax), has been removed by our incumbent congressman, Lee Zeldin, and his Republican colleagues. But removing the teeth from a pig does not make it any less of a pig.

Like Mini-Mike Bloomberg, Mr. Gershon is attempting to use his vast fortune to buy his way onto the national stage. Unlike Mini-Mike, though, Mr. Gershon is not really a resident of the community he seeks to represent. He has lived and worked most of his life in New York City and has apparently done quite well there. More power to him.

Given the deteriorating state of affairs back home in NYC, Mr. Gershon’s money and talents could better be used to rescue that sinking ship. No doubt, “Big Bird” DeBlasio would welcome him with open arms. After all, as the old saying goes, charity begins at home.

We are already blessed with an excellent and dedicated congressman, Lee Zeldin. He grew up in Suffolk County and has lived here his whole life. His entire career has been one of service to his community and to his country. He has earned our support.
