Students throughout the South Fork participated in National Walkout Day on Wednesday by walking out of school and standing outside for 17 minutes just after 10 a.m.The walkout was in protest of gun violence in the wake of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting exactly one month ago, when 17 people were killed. At East Hampton High School, students first formed a circle in front of the northwest entrance to the school, then spread out and held up signs with the names of the victims of the Parkland shooting on them. Other schools also participated in the national event but were closed to photographers and outside observers.
