East Hampton Town has posted its community survey on police reform and is asking town residents to fill out the survey with their impressions of policing by the East Hampton Town Police Department. East Hampton Town Police Detectives announced Wednesday that they had arrested an East Quogue man in connection with multiple high-end jewelry thefts made while police said the man was working in private homes as a HVAC technician. Christopher G. Fitzgerald, 39, of East Quogue, stole over $100,000 in jewelry, police said, from five different homeowners in East Hampton between April and December. Best Pizza & Dive Bar in Amagansett is among 36 bars and restaurants statewide that recently had their liquor licenses suspended for “egregious violations of coronavirus-related regulations.” According to New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office, plainclothes East Hampton Town Police officers visited the bar and pizzeria at 2095 Montauk Highway in Amagansett on November 15 and found approximately 20 patrons seated at and standing around the bar, mingling, ignoring social distancing, and not wearing facial coverings. East Hampton Town police, fire and ambulance personnel will finally be able to begin using the town’s new multimillion-dollar emergency communications system this month, although the system is still awaiting the installation of equipment on new towers planned in Montauk, Springs and Northwest. Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said this week that the new digital radio equipment has been installed at the East Hampton Village 911 dispatch headquarters, at town headquarters in Wainscott and on three of the seven towers that the town ultimately expects to mount antennas on to help close gaps in communications. It being 2020, there should be no surprise that a minor earthquake could apparently be felt on eastern Long Island Sunday morning. According to the Unites States Geological Survey, the quake, with a magnitude of 3.6, occurred at 9:10 a.m. Sunday. The epicenter was in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, which is between Providence, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod. The USGS said the quake could be felt on eastern Long Island, but reports were few and far between. A Rhode Island fisherman disappeared late on Saturday night after he went overboard from a commercial fishing vessel south of Montauk. The U.S. Coast Guard and other commercial fishing vessels searched throughout the night and Sunday but found no traces of Carl Whitney, 32, after he was reported to have gone overboard by the crew of the F/V Hope & Sydney.
