The East Hampton/Pierson boys tennis team was expected to have a strong spring and it didn’t disappoint, winning the League IV title with an undefeated 11-0 record and finishing 12-2 overall. The Bonackers followed that up with a deep run in the Section XI Team Tournament, eventually falling to No. 2 Ward Melville in the semifinals.
The success of the team was reflected in the postseason honors earned by its players. All 10 starters earned All-County and All Divisions honors, which included Max Astilean, Jagger and Jesse Cohen, Henry and Nick Cooper, Miguel Garcia, Cameron and Kiefer Mitchell, Chris Pilarski and Armando Rangel. Astilean additionally earned All-State honors for reaching the New York State Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center where he reached the Round of 32.
It was a successful spring for the East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls track team as it had multiple athletes compete at the county meet. Pierson’s Meredith Spolarich led the in the pentathlon, earning All-Sectional, All-County, Academic All-County and All-League honors. Bridgehampton’s Leslie Samuel was All-County and All-League in both the 200-meter dash and long jump and East Hampton’s Kaili Moore was All-County and All-League in the shot put. Dylan Cashin, Leah McMarron, Sara O’Brien, Ryleigh O’Donnell, Gabrielle Payne and Becca Trowbridge were each All-League in their respective events. Spolarich was also named the team’s MVP, O’Brien was named the Most Improved Player and Shirley Jiang and Sam Ruano were given the Coaches Awards. Information on the boys track team was not provided.
The East Hampton baseball team earned a postseason berth for the second straight year after finishing with a 9-9 League VII record, where it won its first playoff game in over a decade, a 13-5 home victory over Comsewogue. Will Darrell earned both All-County and All-League accolades while Carter and Jack Dickinson and Hudson Meyer was were each All-League. Egan Barzilay earned Academic All-League honors.
The Bonac softball team did not make the postseason, but it finished the year strong with a 7-12 League VII record. Emma Terry was named All-County and was given the team’s MVP award. Katie Kuneth and Susie DiSunno were both named All-League, with DiSunno garnering the team’s Coaches Award. Colleen McKee was given the Most Improved Award.
The South Fork boys lacrosse team, which includes student-athletes from Bridgehampton, East Hampton, Hampton Bays, Pierson and Southampton, finished a respectable 8-6 in Division, (9-7 overall) with 111.48 power points, just mere points away from the 10th and final playoff spot. Jack Cooper was the team’s All-County selection, while Isaiah Lattanzio and Charlie Corwin were both All-County Honorable Mentions. J.P. Amaden, Luke Castillo, Luca Lattanzio, Ryan McDonnell and Noah Thompson were each All-Division selections.
The East Hampton/Pierson girls lacrosse team had a front-loaded schedule, in which it had to play a number of the top teams in the county, therefore leading to a much more competitive second half of the schedule, when it improved its record and finished 5-9 with 86.19 power points. Melina Sarlo and Ava Tintle were both All-County Honorable Mentions, Emma McGrory was named All-Division and Cali Wilson was named Rookie of the Year. Lily Perello was named the team’s Unsung Hero and Claire McGovern was the recipient of the Bob Vlahakis Scholarship, given to a player in Suffolk County who was overcome adversity through injury. Sarlo was also named Team MVP, McGrory was given the Coaches Award and Maddie Elflein was given the Most Improved Award.
East Hampton participated in its first-ever girls flag football season this past spring. Chloe Swickard was named All-County while Kerri O’Donnell and Jocelyn Prieto were named All-Division. Prieto was named team MVP, Jocelyn Garcia was given the Coaches Award and Audrey Smith was named Most Improved Player.
East Hampton was recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as a Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence for the 2022-23 school year. To earn this recognition, 75 percent of the school’s varsity athletic teams were required to hold a GPA above 90 percent.
East Hampton also held its Senior Sports Banquet for the 2022-2023 school year following the end of the spring season where the following awards were given out.
NYSPHSAA Suffolk Zone Award, given to one male and one female student who demonstrates character, leadership, and outstanding participation in physical education.
