A 13-year-old boy has been arrested for making a social media post threatening violence at a local school, East Hampton Town Police said in a statement on Wednesday, October 26, though they did not specify which school.
Police said detectives and school resource officers “swiftly identified and arrested” the student, who was charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony, and making a threat of mass harm, a misdemeanor.
Police said their investigation revealed the 13-year-old doctored a photograph of an uninvolved student. “The individual pictured in the social media post is not the individual responsible for creating the threatening post,” police said.
Interviews and investigation revealed no credible information indicating further threats to local schools, students or teachers, police added.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
