East Hampton Village Beach Permits on Sale Friday for Local Residents

authorMichael Wright on Jan 24, 2023

Residents of East Hampton Town who want East Hampton Village beach parking permits for the 2023 season will have a unique opportunity to purchase the stickers at a reduced rate on Friday, January 27, at the Emergency Services Building.

Permits will be sold from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday only to those residents of the town who come to the building in person. The price will be $500 per permit.

The permits are digitally registered to a vehicle’s license plate, rather than the stickers of years past.

Only one permit may be purchased per household. Buyers must show proof of being a town resident — a driver’s license with a town address, a utility bill or property lease will suffice — and bring their vehicle’s registration.

There will be a maximum of 1,500 permits available on Friday. Any remaining permits not sold, along with another 2,000 permits, will go on sale online, though the village’s website, easthamptonvillage.org, at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1.

The price for the permits sold online will be $750, and they will be available to any nonresident.

Last winter, the village’s entire allotment of nonresident permits sold out by 11 a.m. on the first day they were available for purchase.

The village raised the price this year in an effort to cool the pace of sales — and to glean some additional revenue from the frenzied demand.

The in-person special opportunity was set up this year in response to many complaints last year from local residents who said they had been unable to purchase permits to the village’s treasured beaches last year because of the speed at which they were gobbled up through the online portal.

“This is a great opportunity for year-round town residents to obtain a permit at a discounted price,” Mayor Jerry Larsen said. “So, hopefully, it will go very smoothly. It’s our first year, so bear with us and we’ll make the tweaks that are necessary for the following year. Hopefully, everybody can get a permit.”
