East Hampton Town Police are investigating a burglary and home invasion at an Old Stone Highway residence in Springs at around 4:40 p.m. on Monday, and are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the perpetrator who injured a woman during the incident.
According to police, a man entered the residence and grabbed an elderly woman around the neck and pushed her to the ground. She was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect stole cash and fled, and was last seen at a market on Springs-Fireplace Road. He was wearing a medical mask under his chin and a backpack with an Adidas symbol. Investigators believe he was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt during the burglary and carrying it following the incident. It was not clear if a weapon was used.
East Hampton Police officers and a Southampton Village K-9 unit conducted an extensive search of the area, including by drone.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. All messages will be kept confidential.
