I am happy to announce that our first-ever online virtual fundraiser for the East Hampton, Sag Harbor and Montauk food pantries has been a great success.
With over 90 items donated from the community, we were able to raise over $10,000 from our auction. Adding that to the monies collected from our sponsors, we will be able to donate over $15,000 to the three food pantries.
All of this is proof that when asked, people in these communities respond.
As much of a pleasure as it was to organize and oversee this event, I could not have done it without the many, many local businesses that participated, the churches and civic organizations that spread the word, and, ultimately, the public who flocked to our site and bid for these items.
Given the pressing need for food in this area, and the challenging times fall and winter bring, I am happy to have been able to offer some help. All I can add is that next year we will do similar things, only bigger and better, and raise far more money to make sure those in need can look to us for help.

At the last East Hampton Town Planning Board meeting, a discussion was had over affordable housing and the site at 350 Pantigo Road. Kirby Marcantonio pitched an idea about the renters having “ownership.” Again, as he has stated previously, this...
Why don’t we have “inter”-village ferries, similar to the Amalfi Coast, that run along our bays and can port at each village? Imagine the reduction of summer traffic if you could ride in a great ferry from Southampton or Sag...

As we approach July Fourth, let’s remember that America has suffered through dark and divisive times before. It appears as if we are there again. While there are always those who capitulate, our history shows that we remember those Americans...
As a Sag Harbor native in my late 30s, I’ve seen the East End fully transform into the Hamptons — and it’s not a pretty picture. A village resident, I’m constantly reminded of how I don’t make enough money to...
Regarding your editorial, “Dangerous Liberty” [June 26]: We are of like minds on some issues — government overreach, the founding fathers’ understanding of the dangers of democratic process and of the dichotomy created by a two-party system. It seems important...
The Ladies Village Improvement Society of East Hampton extends many thanks to the generosity of our wonderful East End community. Our 130-year-old organization could not have had yet another successful LVIS Fair on June 14 were it not for the...
It’s good to see that my children are learning about conflict resolution at school. Good to know it says “fair” and “unfair.” Examples such as saying, “I’m sorry,” “talk about it” and “make a compromise” under “fair.” “Unfair” has the...
