A fire broke out inside the battery energy storage facility at the East Hampton electrical substation last week. The fire was extinguished by the buildings' internal fire suppression system and there were no injuries but the storage facility, which was built as part of the same renewable energy proposal that led LIPA to contract to purchase power from the South Fork Wind Farm, has been shut down indefinitely.
