Jon Michael Cidlowski
Former Montauk resident Jon Michael Cidlowski died on September 28 at his home in Coram, where he lived for the past three years. He was 34.
Born March 8, 1976, at Southampton Hospital, he attended Montauk School, where, according to family, he made many friends and was known for his sharp wit and his happy demeanor. Family said he often spoke of his fondest memories of childhood, which included countless hours spent playing “Manhunt,” Atari and Nintendo, riding bikes and telling jokes.
He graduated from Smithtown High School in Smithtown in 1995 and went on to study music at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. Mr. Cidlowski discovered his love of art and music as a teen and carried these two passions throughout his life. He was an avid guitar player and loved music of all types. Family also said he was very skilled at drawing.
In 1995, Mr. Cidlowski became a paraplegic, altering his life forever. A great conversationalist, his kindness, compassion and generosity, survivors said, were the biggest attributes of his personality. According to family, he was always there to offer advice or to help anyone who asked in whatever way he could. It was his hope to encourage and inspire others with similar disabilities.
In addition to his parents, Joel and Jacquelyn Cidlowski of Montauk, he is survived by two sisters, Jenn Lynch of East Hampton and Amy Cidlowski of Montauk; a niece, Cailyn Lynch; and a nephew, Alexander Lynch.
A memorial service was held on October 16 at the Montauk Community Church in Montauk. Interment was at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton. Arrangements under the direction of Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Montauk Fire Department/Ambulance Squad, 12 Flamingo Avenue, Montauk, NY 11954 or to Southampton Hospital Foundation, 240 Meeting House Lane, Southampton, NY 11968 would be appreciated by the family.
