The trustees and supporters of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation held a ceremonial groundbreaking on August 2 for the long-awaited swimming pool and aquatic center to be built in the playhouse’s vacant west wing. The facility has been the vision for the cavernous empty half of the building since it was acquired by East Hampton Town in 1999.
“We are grateful for the generosity of so many in our community, over so many years, who have supported the Foundation’s mission and for our public-private partnership with the Town of East Hampton that has made it possible to commence this essential project,” the foundation’s president, Sarah Iudicone said. “We are excited that our goal of completing the historic Montauk Playhouse with an Aquatic Center and multi-use Cultural Center is coming to fruition.”
The foundation hopes to have the pool open for use by spring 2025.
