During the pandemic, Tessa Kohr was virtually attending Sacred Heart University from her childhood home in East Hampton, and her mother, Nicole DiSunno, wanted to create an opportunity that could turn into a job for Tessa after her graduation in December 2022.

Based on their own love of subscription boxes, they decided to create their own, with a Hamptons twist and feature all prominent local businesses or products.

Together, they created Hamptons Box Club.

The name Hamptons Box Club is both a play on subscription boxes and meant to allude to the exclusivity of the Hamptons with the word “club.”

“After having to complete college courses at home through COVID, I didn’t have that college experience,” said Kohr. “Finding an internship was really hard, and a lot of students weren’t able to get them. I was lucky to get one in the business world and start doing this.”

Kohr noted she took classes in social media marketing to help her develop skills for the social media side of running Hamptons Box Club.

“To be able to do this and eventually something else in the future, or alongside it, it would really help me in the future with whatever career I go into,” she added.

There are three levels of boxes that are released seasonally, and have a seasonal inspiration and local beach-inspired names.

“We try to keep it seasonal, too,” said Kohr. “For the fall box, we did the apple chips from the Milk Pail, and Hampton Coffee Company made us a fall blend, just for our box.”

The Georgica is the largest box, featuring 12 to 14 items for $395. The Main Beach box costs $255 for 10 to 12 items, and the Atlantic Beach Box features 8 to 10 items for $145.

Kohr explained that she went to Main Beach and Georgica with her parents, and these are her favorite beaches.

“There was nothing really available for the Hamptons or the East End, and we thought it would be something great to get out there,” DiSunno said.

The pair packs all of the boxes themselves, with as many friends and family members as are willing to lend a hand, while Kohr plays her favorite pop-country and pop music, DiSunno said with a laugh, since she is never given an opportunity to play her music.

All of the items are handpicked by DiSunno and Kohr and then are put together in the boxes, “puzzle-piecing everything together,” according to DiSunno.

The Hamptons Box Club has shipped boxes to London, Brazil, Australia and the Dominican Republic.

“There are so many people who either got married here, or visited here and had a great time. They just want to reminisce about what it’s like out here,” said DiSunno. “It’s nice to bring that to people all over the world.

“It brings you back to the feeling of being out here all the time,” said DiSunno. “It’s that relaxed fun, eclectic feel, and that’s nice to have in the hustle and bustle of their year.”

Every box features a local cookbook. The summer box for 2022 features Halsey Farm’s cookbook “Loaves and Fishes.”

This year’s summer box features Hamptons Box Club’s signature scent created in collaboration with Montauk Candle Company, called “The Georgica” candle.

The upcoming fall box has an inspiration from the Hampton Classic.

“I want to keep the look and feel of the Hamptons and give that back to people,” DiSunno said.
