We will be at Amagansett School on Thursday for our children’s IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) meeting.
This is no longer a parent-and-school collaborative effort. Up to 12 individuals are sitting as a quasi-judge and jury representing the school, some of whom will include people who have no educational contact with our children, such as the school attorney and members of the clerical staff. No representation was named by us.
Amagansett School is spending taxpayer dollars unnecessarily, in my opinion. There is a portion on the Department of Education website and Office of Special Education Programs speaking of this tactic as an aggressive move for a school to initiate. “Intimidation” would be another word one could use. It is strongly discouraged.
Unless the school is happily agreeing without confrontation to requests that have already been made.
