James Joseph Mackey, a resident of East Hampton for more than 40 years, died on December 29 at his home. He was 87.
Born in New York City on February 11, 1921, to Mary Jo Fitzgerald and John Mackey, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of and worked as chief clerk for the International Longshoremen’s Association.
He is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Holub, Mary Jo Mackey and Kathleen Aldrich, all of East Hampton, and Jo Ann and her husband Robert Oram of Seattle, Washington; a son, Charles Mackey and his wife Carol of Georgia; three granddaughters, Jillian Aldrich of East Hampton, Jessaca Oram of Washington and Kimberly Mackey of Georgia; three grandsons, Richard Holub and Ryan Aldrich, both of East Hampton and James Jo Mackey of Georgia; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine (née Hanrath) Mackey.
A funeral service was held on December 31 at Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton. A graveside service followed at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the East Hampton Village Ambulance Association, 1 Cedar Street, East Hampton, NY 11937 would be appreciated by the family.
