John E. Kelsey of Montauk, and formerly of Dumont, New Jersey, died on December 7 at his home. He was 78.
Born July 11, 1930, at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Helen (née Thoericht) and John B. Kelsey, he attended Tenafly High School in Tenafly, New Jersey, and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, from February 1951 to May 1954.
He was the owner of Skip’s Fish Market in Cresskill, New Jersey, and worked as a chef. Also he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks.
He is survived by a son, John Kelsey of Montauk, and a sister, Joan Cooper of New Jersey. His wife, Georgette (née Marana) Kelsey, predeceased him in 2003.
A funeral mass was held on December 13 at St. Therese of Lisieux in Montauk. Interment was at Fort Hill Cemetery in Montauk.
