John J. Karpinski of Amagansett and Long Beach, Mississippi, died at home in his sleep on April 23. He was 74.

He grew up in Ridgefield, New Jersey, and would come to spend his weekends, summers, and vacations at his aunt and uncle’s house in Amagansett.

After high school, served in the U.S. Army, and become a proud member of the VFW.

He was then a truck driver for Faberge, where many deliveries ended on Fridays at White’s in Montauk.

After graduating from Saint Thomas Aquinas College with a degree in business, he was a manager for Faber Cement, and upon the company’s closing, he settled at Bayway Oil Refinery as a shift operations supervisor.

And yes, it was fun for his kids to say, “Dad is like Homer Simpson.”

He was a lover of fishing, music, racing, and anything to do with a beach and water.

He was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne R. Karpinski (née Madzelan). He is survived by his wife, Kathy L. Gable; his children, Melissa Markowitch and her husband David, Michelle and her fiance Jordan Villa, Joseph and his wife Mary; and his five grandchildren.

He will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery, joining his parents and other family members.
