Lady Bonackers Suffer Three Losses Against Quality Teams

The East Hampton girls lacrosse team fell to 1-5 in Division II with a trio of losses last week, but first-year head coach Caitlin King had reason to feel positive at the end of the week, saying she saw improvement from her squad after it took on three of the tougher teams in the division.The Lady Bonackers started off with a 21-8 loss at Bayport/Blue Point on April 1, followed by a 19-6 home loss to East Islip on April 8. At home on April 10, East Hampton was downed, 18-10, by rival Westhampton Beach.Against Bayport (4-1), East Hampton got off to a good start and played well on defense, but could not hold off the Lady Phantom attack. In the loss to East Islip (2-3, 3-3), the Lady Bonackers had a tough time defending standout layer Rachel Levy, who finished with 12 goals. In the loss to Westhampton Beach (3-0, 3-1), East Hampton played well again in the first half, but could not sustain that effort as the Lady Hurricanes pulled away in the second.“Overall I think we played a lot better against Westhampton than earlier in the week against Bayport and East Islip, which is great because we are improving,” King said. “One of our biggest challenges is just having two consistent halves.”In the loss to Bayport, Carley Seekamp led East Hampton with five goals, while Cassidy Walsh had two and Jacqui Thorsen had one. Jenna Budd added two assists, and Georgia Aldrich made six saves. Against East Islip, Jenna Budd and Seekamp each scored twice while Walsh and Thorsen scored once, and Aldrich made five saves. Against Westhampton Beach, Seekamp had five goals, Walsh had three, and Hollie Schleicher and Thorsen each scored once. Schleicher and Thorsen had two assists each, while Jenna Budd and Walsh each had an assist, and Aldrich made four saves.East Hampton was scheduled to face two opponents coming up where wins would be crucial if the Lady Bonackers want to keep their hopes of a playoff spot alive. The Lady Bonackers were scheduled to take on Elwood/John Glenn (1-3, 1-4 overall)—who sat just one spot above them in the standings—at home on April 14, and will also take on Deer Park (0-4), two spots below them in the standings, at home on April 16. After those games, East Hampton will be on the road for five straight games, with battles against West Babylon (1-3, 1-5), Bellport (1-4, 2-4), Center Moriches (0-6), Kings Park (1-4, 2-4) and Harborfields (4-1, 5-1).
