Recently Reelected Amagansett School Board President Resigns From Board

Earlier this week, Wayne Gauger stepped down as president of the Amagansett Board of Education and resigned from the board altogether. Vice President Addie Slater-Davidson will take over as president until the board elects a new president at its organizational meeting in July 2026. Gauger’s resignation took immediate effect. Voters in the district had reelected Gauger to a new term in a contested race in May. Gauger kept his seat after finishing in second place with 148 votes. The Board of Education expressed its gratitude to Gauger for his contributions to the board and his devotion to the school community. by Staff Writer

Astronomer To Talk About Mysteries Of Time and Place

Dr. David John Helfand, former president of Quest University Canada and past chair of Columbia University’s astronomy department, will give a lecture Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the East Hampton Library. The event, hosted by the Hamptons Observatory, begins at 7 p.m.
Helfand will discuss his latest book, The Universal Timekeepers: Reconstructing History Atom by Atom, which explores how science can uncover the histories of distant times and places once thought unreachable. A book signing will follow the talk, and copies will be available for purchase.

'Lighthouse Weekend' On Tap In Montauk

The Montauk Historical Society will host Lighthouse Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17, at the Montauk Lighthouse.
The event will feature historical demonstrations by the Third New York Regiment, established in 1775, with members dressed in full Revolutionary War-era uniforms and accoutrements. Visitors can also enjoy a performance by the Kings of the Coast Pirates on the Lighthouse stage.
Additional activities will include yarn-spinning and weaving demonstrations, as well as a booth filled with old-fashioned toys and games for children.
