East Hampton Town plans to purchase 18.8 acres of open land off East Lake Drive for $4.25 million. The deal is a steal, the Town Board has said. But critics say the town is planing to use the land in a swap with Suffolk County, give the land to the county in exchange for a parcel of land elsewhere, possibly in Hither Hills, where the town could put a sewage treatment system for the proposed downtown Montauk sewer system.
