The cornerstone for the Springs Community Presbyterian Church, originally just called the Springs Chapel, was laid on April 8, 1882, on the salt hay meadow that overlooks Accabonac Harbor on land donated by the Miller family. The small sanctuary stood by itself in a bare field. George Eldredge, a prominent East Hampton builder, constructed the building in less than a year and was paid $320, church records show. Now, almost 140 years later, the church is in need of a renovation, including repair of a lopsided steeple and a cracking and crooked foundation.
