Kevin Foran and Kimberly Havlik have earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2009 semester at the State University of New York at Oneonta. William Schumann and Sarah Tabet, both of the class of 2010, have achieved dean’s list honors for the 2009 fall semester at Connecticut College.

Times are still a bit tough on some, and one place that can use some help from the community is the East Hampton Food Pantry. The food pantry, for those that do not know, is a center for collection, storage and distribution of food to hungry families and individuals. At present, it is serving more than 200 families weekly from its location on Accabonac Road. Support through volunteers and donations of food and/or funds are welcome. You can reach the pantry at 324-7195 to see how you can help.

On Friday at 6 p.m., there will be an informational meeting at the East Hampton RECenter for the team Heaven Can Wait, a breast cancer awareness group. The meeting will be to discuss the team’s efforts for the LI2DAY Walk for breast cancer, which takes place on June 5 and 6. Show up and be counted.

Kids age 10 and up can join the Board Game Bonanza on Tuesday, February 16, from 4 to 5 p.m., at the East Hampton Library. Games and snacks are provided, and you bring your own favorite game to share. No sign up is required.

Throughout the winter recess week, the Golden Eagle, located on Gingerbread Lane, is holding children’s art classes daily, beginning at 10 a.m. The week’s workshops will focus on art movements from Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism. Call the Golden Eagle at 324-0603, or visit goldeneagleart.com.

Saturday at 5 p.m., the BookHampton Winter Lecture Series continues with “Oekologie to Oecology to Ecology” with Dr. James Hoffman, who previously served as director of Integrated Biological Sciences at the University of Vermont, and currently teaches biology and ecology at Stony Brook Southampton. BookHampton is located at 41 Main Street, and can be reached at 324-4939.

On Sunday, beginning at 4:30 p.m., Guild Hall’s free winter foreign film series, which is held in conjunction with the library, will show “For My Father.” The film has been nominated for seven Israeli Academy Awards. The screening takes place at Guild Hall. For more information, contact Guild Hall at 324-0806.

On Saturday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., East Hampton artists Joseph Eschenberg, Joe Strand, Mae Mougin, Maria Pessino, Sally Breen, Evan Zatti, Athos Zacharias, Eileen Hickey Hulme, Lew Zacks, Alex Vignoli and I are having an opening and fund-raiser for 88.3 FM , Peconic Public Broadcasting radio, the only NPR licensed radio on Long Island, at Hampton Road Gallery, located at 36 Hampton Road in Southampton. This radio station is in desperate need of help to stay alive. There will be a silent auction, a donation jar and a percentage of sales will go to the cause.

Once again, my shameless promotion of Love & Passion: Lust for Life art show that takes place next weekend. This is an open call for any artist who wants to be involved. The only requirement is that the one piece of art that you want to have shown needs to be in theme of love and passion and within the size allotment of maximum 30-by-30 inches. The fee is $40 and all you need to do is show up on Friday, February 19, between the hours of 4 to 6 p.m., to sign up and drop off the work.
